DREAMS: THE HEART AND SOUL OF PASTORAL CARE?

A full day of presentations dealing with the role of dreams in pastoral care and supervision Rolduc Conference Center, Kerkrade, The Netherlands, June 25th

On Saturday, June 25th, the first full day of the IASD Annual Conference to be held in Kerkrade, The Netherlands, the program committee has scheduled a cluster of presentations, all of which will be dealing with dreams as a tool in pastoral care. Dreams have something to say about how people live their lives and make their choices, about their attitudes and beliefs. Stemming from other layers in consciousness, dreams ask to pay attention to inner conflicts, desires and feelings, new perspectives and insights. Through their dreams people may hear a calling from the Divine.

Dreams deserve a comeback in pastoral care and supervision. Reflecting on their own and their clients dreams and taking these seriously may reconnect pastoral caretakers to their own roots; as dreams have played a such an essential role in Biblical texts and throughout the history of the Christian Church. Honoring the dream when taking care of the soul, will help the pastor to listen very sensitively to authentic feelings and religious experiences.

In the following presentations, Dutch Pastoral Theologians, a Psychologist of Religion, and an US Pastoral Counselor will share theory, and do’s and don’ts for Pastors like when dealing with dreams in prison or parish, with the mourning or trainees in supervision. Also a Bibliodrama workshop is included and at the end of the day a panel session will offer the opportunity to deepen reflections by the audience and presenters together. Note that some activities are scheduled parallel.
